Holiday Safety

Here are a few simple tips to keep your family and friends safe this holiday season.

1)      Give all Christmas trees a fresh cut and plenty of water.  This will prevent the tree from drying out and becoming a fire hazard.  Keep all trees and greenery away from radiators and fireplaces.  Also, make sure that your artificial tree is fire resistant.

2)      Keep all candles away from greens, cut flowers, and wrapping paper.  Also, candles should be kept out of reach of small children.

3)      Make sure all of your holiday lights are certified for outdoor use.  Test to see that all lights work properly before hanging them up.  You will avoid problems and hazards later on.

4)      Use common sense at your holiday party. Perishable foods should not be left out for more than two hours.  Also, be sure to keep raw and cooked foods separate in order to avoid cross contamination.

5)      Use caution while giving gifts to children.  Keep their age in mind and make sure the gift is age-appropriate.  For example, avoid giving a toy with many small pieces to a toddler or baby.
